Southern Illinois Sheep and Craft Festival
I had a great time at the Southern Illinois Sheep and Craft Festival! Great lamb lunch and some awesome vendors as well.
There was a sheep shearing every hour. Notice the little girl watching closely?
... the crowd was good!
I met kindred spirits - spinners in public!
They are the Warped and Twisted Fiber Guild of Southern Illinois and Missouri - I hope to join them.
My total damage from the festival was:
All lovely ladies and vendors. Both Connie and Vicki are teaching at Fiber-U in Lebanon, MO this year. After meeting them I've registered for their classes. Connie is teaching how to blend fine fibers on a drum carder, and Vicki is teaching fractal spinning. Vicki said she dyes all her fiber to be able to be fractal spun. I was so inspired that I went home and promptly started my first fractal project. I finished spinning basically in 2 days, then finished a hat.
Since the festival, I've been keeping busy. The Shetland fleece was just begging to be combed with its open locks. So last weekend I made my own handmade wool combs with help from a friend.
They were made with 3/32" stainless steel welding wire and a 2" thick block of cherry. The spacing and tine quantity was made to follow the Valkyrie Extra Fines.
I hope to make more combs and hackles in various tine spacing and widths. I will be documenting my next comb project and sharing with you!
